Cozy

The Cozy is a thermostatic radiator enclosure that regulates the temperature of individual radiators in a steam or hot water (hydronic) heating system. The Cozy is a retrofit solution that can be installed on existing radiators without any modifications.

The Cozy enclosure has insulating material and fits over the existing radiator. The Cozy is equipped with a room temperature sensor, radiator temperature sensors, and a quiet fan. The room temperature sensor in the Cozy measures the temperature of the room and when the room temperature drops below the desired level, the fan turns on to allow heat to fill the room. As the temperature in the room reaches the desired level, the fan turns off.

To maximize energy efficiency in a building the Cozy must be deployed on at least 60% of the radiators. The Cozy is an energy-efficient solution that allows for precise temperature control, reduces over and under-heating, and can save up to 40% of emissions and heating costs.

The Cozy saves energy by regulating the heat transfer from most radiators in a building, which allows energy to move more efficiently to the rooms that need it without unnecessarily overheating other spaces in the building. The Cozy also transmits temperature data to the central boiler control unit, which operates only when needed based on real-time room temperature information. As a result, the Cozy system reduces the amount of energy needed to comfortably heat the building, leading to greater comfort, lower heating costs, and a smaller carbon footprint.

The Cozy works on a variety of radiator-based heating systems, including one-pipe steam, two-pipe steam, Metro Steam, and hydronic (hot water) systems. By providing precise room-level heat control, the Cozy improves energy efficiency and comfort in buildings with these legacy heating systems, regardless of the specific radiator technology used.

Yes, at the request of building owners the Cozy components may be configured to create custom Cozy’s for a unique look. However, typically, customers opt for the standard white metal enclosure or the modular enclosure.

The Cozy, Kelvin’s innovative radiator enclosure system, is the first step on the pathway to building decarbonization. It enhances the efficiency of existing radiator-based heating systems, allowing for precise room-level heat control without invasive infrastructure modifications. When integrated with hybrid electrification, which combines Cozy with standard window or sleeve heat pumps and thermal batteries, it provides a cost-effective and simple solution to building decarbonization, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

While Cozy’s would be a great solution for single family homes, Kelvin currently only sells to multifamily and commercial customers. Sign up for updates to find out when the Cozy is available for single family homes.

Hybrid Electrification and Financing

Kelvin’s hybrid electrification solution combines traditional radiator heating systems with electric heat pumps, specifically designed for radiator-heated buildings. By integrating our Cozy radiator enclosure system, window/sleeve heat pumps, and thermal batteries, we offer a cost-effective and simple pathway to building decarbonization. This approach leverages high-efficiency electric heating during milder conditions and traditional radiator heating during extreme weather events or when required by other factors. Kelvin’s hybrid electrification is a scalable and innovative solution that reduces energy consumption, lowers carbon emissions, and promotes a cleaner energy future.

Yes, Kelvin provides a no-money down subscription so customers have instant energy savings. The Kelvin subscription is a fixed price per month per apartment for the duration of the subscription. During the subscription period Kelvin provides maintenance, dashboard access to data and alerts, and carbon and cost savings

Yes, the Cozy is available for ConEd and National Grid incentives in New York. The Cozy is specifically listed in the New York State Technical Resource Manual. The Cozy also qualifies for incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Company History

Radiator Labs has been serving customers since 2011. The company name changed to represent the wider vision for the company. Kelvin’s vision is being the decarbonization partner for buildings in older and colder cities, and focuses on more than just radiator covers.
